About Our Brand

Growning up two blocks down from one of Western Australia’s best known surfboard factories Murray Smith’s Hotbrewz Surfboards. Lane Alver had immersed himself in surfboard culture, eventually spending 25 years in surf hardware retail in both Perth and Margaret River. During this time having spent many hours handling surfboards from almost every manufacturer available. He picked up the planer in 1996. He started hobby shaping in his Scarborough garage on his days off from the iconic Cordingley’s Surf Shop. He rode his own shapes to many wins including two state title victories and the hotly contested 0/40’s in the prestigious Margaret River classic. By 2000 LAD Surfboards was a legitimate side business. Fast forward to 2003 and Margaret River became home and LAD Surfboards continued to prosper. Leaving retail in 2010 and working along side legendary shaper Al Bean, Lane became familiar with design software and recorded his handshape data to digital. Primarily a custom board builder dedicated to the age old formula of surfer/ shaper interaction to refine and perfect your desired shape. The models available are the base to start that journey. Every model has been developed to satisfy the needs of every surfer type.
