Amato Vino is a small-batch, artisan winery located in the Margaret River region of Western Australia. Established in 2003 by owner and winemaker Brad Wehr, the winery is renowned for its ‘lo-fi’ winemaking philosophy, which emphasizes wild ferments, minimal adjustments, and gentle handling. Most of their wines are unfined and unfiltered, reflecting a hands-on approach that respects traditional processes while embracing creativity and innovation.
Wine Series
Amato Vino produces three distinct series of wines:
- ‘Wilds’ Series: This collection features emerging Mediterranean grape varieties, micro-batches, skin-contact ferments, and other eclectic wines. It includes single-vineyard selections with minimal winemaking intervention, utilizing unconventional vessels for fermentation and maturation. Varietals in this series include Teroldego, Nebbiolo, Sangiovese, Primitivo, Marsanne, Trousseau, and Savagnin.
- ‘Mantra’ Series: Focusing on classic Margaret River grape varieties with a ‘lo-fi’ twist, this series emphasizes vineyard site and fruit purity. Working with small fruit parcels, the wines undergo wild ferments without additives, fining, or filtration. The ‘Mantra’ series includes Barrel-aged Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Cabernet Sauvignon.
- ‘Fusa’ Series: Named after the Italian word for ‘blend,’ the ‘Fusa’ series showcases blends of emerging varieties, aiming for juicy, fresh drinkability combined with complexity. These wines are packed with flavor yet remain light on the palate, designed for short to mid-term enjoyment.
